A 32-year-old man has been charged with murdering his 24-year-old wife, who was found dead with stab wounds in Bognor on Tuesday..

Hajrudin Hasanovic, of Portsmouth, is accused of killing Cassandra Hasanovic in Bognor Regis.

Hasanovic has been remanded in custody to appear at Lewes Crown Court on August 14.

The case has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission because officers visited Mrs Hasanovic earlier that day.

A spokesman for the Sussex force said: "Because Mrs Hasanovic had been visited by police earlier that day, her death has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission in line with the provisions of the Police Reform Act.

"This requires mandatory referral where a death occurs following recent contact with the police."

Police and ambulance crews were called to Normanton Avenue, in Bognor Regis, on Tuesday afternoon.

Officers said a woman was found with serious stab wounds and was taken by ambulance to St Richard's Hospital, Chichester, where she was declared dead.
