FINING motorists who leave their cars running at level crossings or in town centres in the Adur area has been considered by the county council, it has been revealed.
Council leader Henry Smith said it was one of many policy suggestions mentioned in committee papers.

The suggestion was that motorists who left their engines idling could have received a warning and then a potential £20 fine.

But he dismissed it as a 'terrible idea', adding that there was no way he would let it become council policy. "It begs the question: How long do you leave the engine idling before you commit an offence?"
