William Parker students have been discovering scientific careers.

The 30 youngsters joined around 500 pupils from across Sussex to learn about higher education and career opportunities in science.

They were attending a bioscience, healthcare and industry fair at Wakehurst Place in West Sussex - home of the Millennium Seed Bank Project, and was organised by government education initiative Aimhigher.

They took part in workshops on forensic science, sports science and neuroscience, and listened to a series of talks on the NHS in its 60th anniversary year.

Aimhigher Sussex co-ordinator Sara Candler said it was a great success.
"It was to encourage these young people, who are about to start their GCSE options, to choose science because Britain has a shortage of science graduates," she said.
