Conquest maternity unit shut 44 times - shock
THE Conquest Hospital maternity unit was closed 44 times in 2007.
This amazing figure has been released by the Tories under the Freedom of Information Act, and will come as a huge shock to the people of Hastings and 1066 Country.
It means mums being turned away because the maternity unit is full. They will have been diverted to other hospitals - some many miles away.
This is a matter of huge concern, especially as it appears the maternity at Eastbourne will soon close and the mums from that area will come to Hastings.
The Tories say the figures are an outrage.
