Two police officers received an award for their bravery in helping a pensioner in need in Hastings town centre.
PC Lizzie Hall and PC Phillip Edwards were given the prestigious Resuscitation Certificate from the Royal Humane Society at a special ceremony on Thursday (October 2).

The officers, who are based at Hastings, received the accolade after helping a woman who was found lying on the ground.

The pair were called to the Priory Meadow Shopping Centre on September 6 last year after a woman had her purse stolen.

While a search was taking place for the suspect, they discovered the elderly patient in a busy public area. She was unconscious, unresponsive with no signs of breathing or pulse.

The two officers immediately went to assist while waiting for the ambulance to arrive.

They started artificial respiration and cardiac massage and continued until paramedics arrived.

PCs Hall and Edwards were among many officers and police staff who received awards at Slaugham Manor at the Long Service and Good Conduct Ceremony.
