A taxi driver attacked his wife after accusing her of lying when she could not tell him where his mobile phone charger was.
Paul Huggins, of Union Road, and who edits The Entertainer magazine, was kicked out of the marital home two days earlier following a heated argument.
Prosecutor Claire Prodger said Huggins arrived back at the house on June 3 early in the morning a
sking his wife Sally if he get some of his belongings.
She said: "His wife agreed and let him in. He returned a short time later asking for his phone charger.
"She said she did not know where it was and he followed her and kept on calling her a liar.
"His wife tried to explain to him that she did not know where the charger was but he hit her in the face causing her to fall to the floor.
"She hit the door frame and he then grabbed her hair repeatedly shouting at her calling her a liar.
"After the assault the victim, who was four-and-a-half months pregnant, was left with pain in the jaw and the face, a bloodshot left eye, slight pain in her stomach and a lump on the back of her head.
"Due to her pregnancy she went to the hospital but fortunately there were no difficulties with the baby.
"In police interview the defendant said he did not punch his wife in the face.
"The victim has said she has forgiven her husband for the assault and that he is attending an anger management course and trying to give up alcohol."
The court heard that Huggins had previous convictions for assault due to alcohol abuse, the last one dating from 1996.
Huggins, 46, appeared before deputy district judge Adrian Turner at Hastings Magistrates Court on Wednesday to be sentenced for common assault.
Representing himself, he said: "I am deeply in love with my wife. We met in a church more than a year ago and fell in love immediately.
"I was devastated when she said she did not want to see me anymore.
"I have turned my life around and become a taxi driver, the publisher of a local magazine and a devout Christian.
"I have also abstained from drinking alcohol."
Mr Turner gave Huggins an 18-month community order in which he must attend the Integrated Domestic Abuse Program.
He was also ordered to pay £60 costs.
