Dance and musical performances from around the world featured in an event aimed at exploding myths surrounding refugees.
Organised by Hastings International Organisation (HIO) in Wellington Mews on Saturday, displays were from Respond Youth Group, Kivu Peace Initiative, Gizmo, the Siddartha Nepali Society, Hastings Iranian Community, Meli Melo, Pestalozzi students and Reg Hendrickkse and friends jazz band.

Hastings' deputy mayor Peter Armstrong and HIO chairman Owen Thompson opened the event as part of Refugee Week activities.

Event organiser Alex Ntung (CORR) said: "The celebrations combined different cultures and awareness of what the refugees do as part of the community.

"Many people believe that asylum seekers are illegal, but we are trying to prove that they are not.

"It was all about giving people a different perspective and to show them that their fears are not real."
