A GROUP of Crawley residents have been driven so potty by potholes that they've formed their own club – complete with online blog.
The self-named Crawley Potholes Club reckons Crawley's roads are getting a raw deal and that County Council bosses are reluctant to splash the cash.

The group's blog at http://crawleypotholes.blogspot.com/ reads: "From a variety of sources, it see
ms that concerns are growing about the state of Crawley's roads. Holes that were repaired a year ago are re-opening. Resurfacing appears to be a matter of laying some tar and dropping gravel into it, which doesn't last very long before needing to be replaced."

It points out that the budget spent on highways and maintenance has fallen from seven to five per cent in five years and adds: "But of course we all know that poorly maintained roads add to the cost of owning a vehicle. Car suspension and bike wheels damaged by holes cost us dearly, but this doesn't appear on the local council's balance sheets.

"Of course the worst cost from bad road surfaces is not financial, it's an issue of safety."

A West Sussex County Council said: "The county council already has dedicated 'find and fix' pothole patrols, and operates a telephone and website reporting service for residents.
"We will obviously look at any issues the group raise and would ask them to use the reporting procedure."

To contact WSCC's 'find and fix' patrol call (01243) 642105 or report pot holes on line at www.westsussex.go.uk
