Council opposes homes bid
OPINIONS differed about whether a site of Hempstead Lane was suitable for large or small homes.
Uckfield Town Council's planning committee delivered a no-vote to the scheme to build five detached houses.
But Cllr Mick Harker disagreed saying the Rydon Homes scheme should go ahead as the site was suitable for larger homes.
His view was strongly opposed by the Mayor, Cllr Louise Eastwood, who felt pressure should be brought to bear on developers to include affordable homes when they apply for the right to build.
Members pointed out two proposals to build on the site had already been refused by Wealden District Council.
And they agreed with reasons given including the dangers of developing on a flood plain and the need to protect a spring.
Wealden District Council will have the final say on the application.
