KNIGHTS and maidens had a merry old time at Herstmonceux Castle at the weekend.
The annual medieval festival drew crowds, despite the damp weather.

Big battle re-enactments, jousting and 'skill at arms' all added to the fun.

Medieval food and music was also enjoyed, along with living history encampments.

Children got their own medieval experience through 'kids kingdom' activities and events.

A spokesman for England's Medieval Festival said: 'It went incredibly well and it was a huge success.

'It was a completely fun-filled weekend what with all the activities – such as jousting and skills at arms.

'The weather really did not deter people from coming. We had huge compliments about the food.'
