MORE houses are likely to be built in the Wealden district.
The Government has announced plans to build an extra 3,000 homes in the area.
These would be built on top of the 8,000 houses already earmarked for the district.
A total of 11,000 new houses would need to be built in Wealden by 2026.
Parmjit Dhanda, government communities minister, said: 'Despite the short term challenges of the credit crunch our population is still ageing and with more people are choosing to live alone the number of new households are growing faster than new homes being built.
'If more homes are not built now for the long term the housing ladder will get even further out of reach leaving the next generation with nowhere to live.'
The announcement came after a consultation on the South East region's future.
Other Sussex areas are also facing an increase in housing.
