CHILDREN at St Philip's School in Uckfield rolled up their sleeves and got hands-on experience at sculpting when renowned sculptor Marcus Cornish held a workshop for year three children at the school.
Marcus has been commissioned by St Philip's Catholic Church to sculpt a life-size figure of Christ ascending into heaven.

He has been sculptor in residence at the Museum of London, creating clay sculptures inspired by visitors' reactions to the museum displays.

He is also an academic member of The Prince's School of Drawing founded by Prince Charles to bring traditional drawing back into focus and made a sculpture of Paddington Bear for Paddington Station.

Year three teacher Simon Virgo said: 'Marcus is an awesome sketcher and I asked the children to imitate his way of working by sketching their own faces.

Using their sketches they modelled their faces and we will incorporate these into our statue of our own school saint, St Philip Neri.

'The idea is that St Philip's robe will be made up of the laughing faces of the all the children.'
