Traffic light switch-off causes 'chaos'
TRAFFIC chaos hit Hailsham this morning after traffic lights were turned off.
The lights, at the top of North Street, were turned off for contractors working at the new Tesco store.
Pavements were also closed and temporary zebra crossings installed.
Landlord Robin Sadler, from the nearby Grenadier pub, believed someone would be killed.
He said: 'It is disgusting, terrible, absolute chaos.
'There are no clear signs, people are just walking out into the traffic.
'Elderly people and children are having to cross from dangerous positions.'
Mr Sadler phoned Hailsham Community College to warn teachers that children could get hurt.
He added: 'We were standing outside watching and everyone walking past was outraged.'
A Tesco spokesman was unavailable for comment.
