Woman suffers serious head injuries in road accident

AN ELDERLY woman was in collision with a car on a busy road.
The accident happened on the A22, south of the Bell Lane junction, Uckfield, at 4pm yesterday (Wednesday).

The 85-year-old woman was crossing the road.

The vehicle was a white Fiat Punto being driven north by a 21-year-old man.

Sussex Police sent a helicopter to the scene.

The woman suffered serious head and leg injuries and she was taken to East Surrey Hospital, Redhill.

She is still being treated by medical staff.

A police spokesman said no arrest had been made.

The road was closed from 4.15pm until 7.30pm.
