Midhurst's long-awaited town-centre manager could soon be appointed.
Vice-chairman of Midhurst Town Council John Quilter told members of the community care committee funding was tight as Selsey had backed out of the scheme.
But Chichester District Council was pushing ahead with plans to put a town manager in Midh
urst at least for one year.
"One of the business development managers is going on maternity leave and the money that CDC will save during that one year will fund a replacement on the basis of a one-year post."
Between two-and-a-half and three days of the post would be as town manager in Midhurst, said Mr Quilter. The remainder would be spent on other duties in the business development department at CDC.
Since Midhurst Town Council had given financial support, Mr Quilter had been invited to join the interview panel.
The success of the year's post would be evaluated at the end of the post.
