A ROYAL Mail post bus between Haywards Heath and Balcombe will cease on April 4 after local authority funding was withdrawn for the service.

The post bus runs between the Royal Mail delivery office in Haywards Heath and Balcombe post office and picks up passengers along the way.

It stops at Sainsbury's in Haywards Heath to enable passengers to do some shopping.

A spokesman for West Sussex County Council said: "We were contacted by Royal Mail in September 2008, asking for considerable additional funding to continue operating the Balcombe service. Royal Mail were informed there was no additional funding available."

Royal Mail has confirmed the last day of operation will be Saturday, April 4.
