A game time promised at Ardingly’s autumn fair
ATTRACTIONS for this year’s Autumn Show at Ardingly have been unveiled by the South of England Agricultural Society.
The Ardingly Showground comes to life over the weekend of October 1 and 2 for a celebration of the harvest and rural life.
“This is the culmination of the farming year and the perfect chance to promote all that’s great about the traditional English countryside”, says Deborah Barber, Director of the South of England Agricultural Society.
“There is a wonderful, relaxed atmosphere about the country fair which provides an insight into many fascinating pursuits and pastimes, and a chance to enjoy lots of the delicious products produced by our talented growers and farmers.”
Virtually non-stop entertainment in the display ring features everything from the Sussex Peggers mounted skill at arms team, Jez Avery stunt show, Warrenby gun dogs, and the Kent and Sussex bloodhounds.
Sunday October 2 sees the rector of Ardingly parish, the Reverend John Crutchley, leading a service of Harvest Thanksgiving at 10am, a popular donkey show plus a cavalcade of hounds.
Younger visitors can follow the Pumpkin Trail, culminating in a reward for those having successfully visited all the areas of the Show. Children will also be able to enjoy entertainment from Jonathan Cann, aka Punch and Judy man with balloon modeling and magic tricks.
Flying displays by the famous Huxley’s birds of prey feature raptors in a tradition that dates back over 4000 years. The skies of this year’s show will also be filled with a backdrop of stunning kites, thanks to the Brighton Kite Flyers.
Canine activities feature heavily across the calendar, with the Mid Sussex dog agility show, terrier racing and gun dog scurries to enjoy.
Clay pigeon shooting, with a 50 bird shoot, will take place on both days along with a Team Shoot Challenge on Sunday.
Car parking is free and advanced tickets are available, at reduced rates, online from www.autumnshow.org.uk with entry on the day just £23 for a family ticket admitting two adults and two children.
