Libraries in Sussex appeal for your unwanted books

PEOPLE are being urged to donate good quality books to the West Sussex Library service in a bid to improve the choice and variety in the county’s branches.

Last year saw more than 7,000 added to the county’s collection and the service is hoping to exceed that target in 2012.

Staff are looking for fiction and non-fiction books in excellent condition at less than four years old in hardback or under two years in paperback.

They will assess all of the donated items - which may be used in any library throughout West Sussex. Any books that cannot be used could be sold or recycled.

West Sussex County Council Deputy Leader, Lionel Barnard, who oversees the Library Service, said: “This is an excellent opportunity to support our local libraries and to keep the shelves full with lots of choice.

“Donating your books is as good for the environment as doing your bit towards recycling and also means they can be read again and again.”

For more information about the book appeal contact the West Sussex Library Service on: 01243 642111. Alternatively visit the website: www.westsussex.gov.uk/libraries.
