Blue India event raises cash for cyclone fund

Blue India restaurant in Haywards Heath has helped raise more £3,500 towards the Cyclone Relief Fund for those whose homes and lives have been destroyed in the Bangladesh cyclone.

Along with Blue India in Crawley, the restaurant held a charity fundraising event on January 30 and 31, with 50% of their takings going to the appeal. They also held a raffle for gifts donated by local businesses.

The two evenings were a great success with Blue India Crawley and Haywards Heath serving over 180 guests.

Jamal Uddin, a partner and manager of Blue India in Haywards Heath said: "Thanks to all our customers and local businesses that supported us and made the events such a success. This was our first charity event and we were overwhelmed with the support we received from businesses, especially in the Broadway, which all donated raffle prizes and also from our customers who purchased raffle tickets. The charity nights were very successful and hopefully there will be many more to come."

Blue India in Haywards Heath raised a total of 1,892 and Blue India in Crawley raised a total of 1,840, making a grand total of 3,732.

Shaf Rahman a partner and manager of Blue India in Crawley said: "The money will go towards helping those affected by the disaster to rebuild their lives and homes, including the reconstruction of schools and providing clean water and sanitation."

Chris Jones, a regular customer who attended the event said: "We really enjoy coming to Blue India and are pleased to support their event and help another part of the world, we applaud Blue India's efforts."
