Walkers take to road to avoid danger of icy pavements

SLIPPERY pavements are the hazards as thousands of Mid Sussex workers slither back to work this morning after a snowy weekend.

Temperatures hovering around freezing point and a cold mistwith snow still covering the district gave the start of the working week a chilly feel.

Main roads were clear but with no staff or budget to clear pavements people struggled on to roads to avoid ice hazards on pavements, a risky business in itself with drivers dealing with slush and ice on many stretches. Our picture shows walkers taking to Gower Road in Haywards Heath, a scene repeated hundreds of times across the district.
