Letter: Christmas collections
THE Rotary Club of the Sussex Vale completed their Christmas Collections on Saturday, December 3, in Hurstpierpoint and at Tesco in Jane Murray Way, and on December 10 in Hassocks. We raised £228 in Hurstpierpoint, £572 at Tesco and £270 in Hassocks, making a total of £1,070, a magnificent result.
We would like to thank all those who contributed most generously, and would like to assure the public that the money will be well spent. We have just distributed a number of Christmas parcels to deserving families, we have supported the local charity “Cancervive”, we have sponsored the local round of “Rotary Young Chef” at Downlands School, we support Newick House School by taking a group of pupils to Chessington on the annual “Rotary Kids Out!” day and in other ways, and we continue to support St Peter and St James Hospice.
In the International field, the Rotary/WHO project to eliminate polio has reduced the number of countries where polio is endemic to four – Afghanistan, India, Pakistan and Nigeria, with some others having cross-border transmission. The club has contributed its share to the funds needed to provide the vaccine, alongside the Gates Foundation’s massive donations.
We try to enjoy ourselves in our activities, and welcome anybody interested to find out more about what we do. We can be contacted on 01273 845068 or by email to secretary@rotary-sxvale.org.uk and further details can be found on our website at http://www.rotary-sxvale.org.uk/
