Letter: Post offices - here we go again

IT was with dismay that I read your front page last week. Here we go again!

In 2007 many of the local Post Offices were closed and so everyone now has to travel to The Orchards in Haywards Heath.

The main Post Office cannot cope with the amount of customers they have to deal with. The queues are horrendous, no matter what time of day you choose to visit.

The automated machines often do not work and it is extremely frustrating to have to then join another queue.

I cannot see how there can possibly be room in the Co-Op to accommodate the facilities of the existing Post Office.

If the counter serving positions are reduced as was suggested in your article, the customers will be forced to wait much longer to be served. I am sure the management at the Co-Op are rubbing their hands with glee at the thought of extra customers passing through their doors. In actual fact they may lose out when many customers shop elsewhere to avoid the congestion caused by the queuing Post Office customers.

I tend to buy stamps and other products elsewhere and only use the Post Office when absolutely unavoidable because the queues are unbearable.

It would appear to me that customer satisfaction is the last thing they consider. I regularly used the Post Office in Franklands Village before they closed it and we never had to queue for half an hour to be served. It was a fantastic service. I appreciate that in the difficult financial climate costs have to be considered but please remember it’s the customers who pay for the services that keep the money coming in.

Barbara Voller,

Franklands Village,

Haywards Heath

Barbara, Since Post Office Ltd is heavily subsidised by Government, has it occurred to you that perhaps the services you access at the Post Office are loss making, and your custom is not wanted? I note you have chosen to make this point via the internet, rather than post a letter!
