Letter: ‘Wasted’ money on new vehicles
WE often see the vehicles driven by the Parking Enforcement Officers in the Orchards car park off Church Road in Haywards Heath.
I am amazed that there are “61” registered vehicles and concerned that the Mid Sussex District Council as the Enforcement Authority is wasting tax payers money on new and expensive vehicles.
Could the Middy ask the council for an explanation?

Cllr John de Mierre, Cabinet Member for Economic Development replies: “The Council has not used taxpayers’ money to buy these new vehicles. We lease them for use by our Civil Enforcement Officers because it is the most cost effective and cheapest solution, for vehicles which get very heavy use.”
“Our contract to lease the cars has recently been renewed after four years and that is why we have received new vehicles with ‘61’ plates. Residents will be interested to know that two of these vehicles are electric cars which are not only extremely cheap to run but also protect the environment by reducing harmful emissions.”
