Policy concerns - Urgent public meeting needed

Your report (Middy, 29 November) of a recent ‘Question time public meeting’ about the ‘visionary redevelopment of the Haywards Heath station’ and other important matters leaves some crucial questions unanswered.

Was this truly a public meeting (of the Haywards Heath Businesses Association at a local club) when the Middy’s preview of it on November 22 – ‘Chance to promote your business’ – began ‘If you are an entrepreneur’, and made no mention of the station site before advising would-be attendees first to contact Sue Llewellyn (presumably a Businesses Association officer)?

Without consulting the public at any properly advertised, accessible meeting, the town council, this autumn, gave the station plan the thumbs-up, despite concerns raised by the Deputy Mayor and other councillors that it conflicts with current district council policy on the station site. Will the town council now call such a meeting before decisions are taken next month?

The justifiable worries of stakeholders such as the Mid Sussex Taxi Association about severely reduced numbers of taxi places and serious traffic congestion arising from the siting of the proposed supermarket are sufficient reasons to call an urgent public meeting about the future of our premier commuter station. This is not a matter only for business people like me; it affects us all.
