POLICE are trying to identify an 'arty' looking man who approached a young schoolboy on a woodland path and said he wanted to 'hug' him.

The boy was with his friend, both aged under ten years, walking along the footpath from Hatchgate Lane, off Broad Street in Cuckfield, through to the Blunts Wood area of Haywards Heath.

The boy described the man who approached him as about 20 years old, 'arty' looking, wearing a three-quarter length black leather coat, a long purple scarf, 'trendy' glasses and a hat.

Sgt Rachel Mundy, of the Haywards Heath neighbourhood policing team, said no offence was committed by the man but police would like to hear from anyone who knows who he was so that he can be spoken to.

The incident took place on February 25 at about 4.40pm. Anyone with any information can ring Sgt Mundy at Haywards Heath police station on 0800 6070 999.
