POLICE have named the victim of a fatal collision on Thursday August 7 on the A283 Washington Road, Steyning, as 76 year old John Michael Walker of Horsham Road, Steyning.

Mr Walker was driving a green Peugeot that was in collision shortly before 11am with a heavy goods vehicle being driven by a 50 year old Crowborough man on the Steyning bypass at its junction with Horsham Road.

The goods vehicle driver suffered shock injuries.

The road was closed for three and a half hours while police carried out a thorough investigation at the scene.

This caused local traffic problems in the area and police say they would like to thank road users who were inconvenienced for their patience.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to contact the Road Policing Unit at Haywards Heath by calling 0845 60 70 999 and quoting Operation Howley.

Did you know Mr Walker? You are welcome to add a tribute below.
