Burgess Hill youth band scoop awards

Young musicians have more trophies in their cabinet after another competition success.

The Youth Band of the Burgess Hill-based Mid Sussex Brass Band scored three wins at the Southern Counties Amateur Brass Band Quartets and Ensembles Contest at Ringmer Community College.

The 11-member youth ensemble took First Prize in the ensembles' section beating three others to take the New Ensemble Shield and a voucher for 15.

Their conductor Peter Mansfield won the Wright and Round Cup for the best interpretation of the test piece from the junior and youth sections.

The band's youth quartet also won the youth quartets' section, taking home the Llewellyn Challenge Cup, a certificate, medals and a 20 voucher.

In addition to the wins by the youngsters the junior quartet also won second prize in the junior section quartets, receiving the Lindsay Challenge Cup, certificate, medals and a 15 Voucher.

Young member Ben Day also took third prize in the junior slow melody solo competition beating six other contestants, earning a certificate and medal.

The band meets regularly at Cyprus Hall, Burgess Hill, and is always keen to welcome new members.
