Talented musicians at St Wilfrid's
Haywards Heath Music Society's next concert, on Saturday will feature two highly talented young musicians, Rebecca Hewes and former local resident Russell Hepplewhite, in a recital of works for cello and piano.
Rebecca has played the cello from the age of eight. She attended Chetham's School of Music andt the Royal Academy, graduating in 2005 with first-class honours.
Her first concerto appearance was at the age of 17, when she performed the Elgar concerto. Rebecca regularly gives solo recitals in London, and as a chamber musician she has appeared in numerous prestigious festivals and concert series throughout the UK, including major venues such as the Wigmore Hall and Bridgewater Hall.
While growing up in Haywards Heath, Russell was privileged to learn the piano with Susan Howes and the clarinet with Christine Colborne, before attending Chetham's School of Music in Manchester. He subsequently won a scholarship to study piano at the Royal College of Music, and has since performed in venues across the UK, including an appearance at the Bridgewater Hall.
He now divides his time equally between performing, teaching and composing, and is very much looking forward to returning to Haywards Heath to play for the Music Society.
In addition to more well-known pieces, the programme will continue the Music Society's championing of the sadly neglected English composer William Hurlstone by featuring his cello sonata.
The concert starts at 7.45pm in St Wilfrid's Church, and is open to non-members.
