Comedy with a serious purpose

Charity Chuckle offers comedy with the most serious of purposes - a stand-up night in Brighton to end violence against women.

The Komedia is the venue on Tuesday, December 4. Doors 7pm; show starts 8pm. The night features comedians Lucy Porter, Tiffany Stevenson, Jo Neary, Mae Martin, Rachel Parris, Joe Wells, David James And Ingrid Dahle. Tickets 0845 293 8480 or online at www.komedia.co.uk/brighton

Spokeswoman Kerry Herbert said: “Lucy Porter headlines a fantastic night of top-notch comedy, raising laughs, awareness and funds for Rise and Survivors Network this Christmas. The night is set to be the entertainment highlight of Brighton and Hove 16 Days events,

“Loveable and hugely likeable, Lucy Porter has been a hit with audiences up and down the country since 2001. On TV you may have recently seen her emerge victorious from a well-fought battle for the title of Celebrity Mastermind Champion in a special edition of the show for Children in Need. Lucy fended off stiff competition from Mark Watson and Dave Spikey and broke records by achieving the highest-ever celebrity score.”

Ingrid Dahle is a Norwegian newcomer to the comedy scene. Ingrid is the winner of Brighton’s inaugural Squawker Award 2012 and a finalist in the prestigious national competition, So You Think You’re Funny.

Brighton and Hove 16 Days events aim to raise awareness of the global problem of violence against women and highlight the connections between women, violence, and human rights. Part of an international campaign, 16 Days falls between November 25 (the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) and December 10 (International Human Rights Day).

Charity Chuckle is the South-east’s first and only regular comedy fundraiser, run on a not-for-profit basis since 2009 by Jim Holland and Kerry Herbert. www.charitychuckle.co.uk
