A DRIVER was seriously hurt in a crash on the A272 this morning.

Firefighters used heavy rescue equipment to free the driver after his car was involved in a collision with another car near the junction with Kent Street, Cowfold at about 7.15am.

An ambulance crew took the man, who was thought to have potentially life-threatening injuries, to the Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel Road, London.

Police closed the road between Cowfold and Bolney, diverting rush-hour traffic.

Fire and rescue crews from Partridge Green, Horsham, Burgess Hill and Hurstpierpoint attended the crash and were at the scene for about an hour.

A fire and rescue service spokesman said: "One male was extricated using heavy rescue equipment and taken to hospital by ambulance."
