Athletes raised thousands of pounds at the Sussex Triathlon on Sunday.
A big crowd of athletes and spectators enjoyed the fun at Ardingly College in West Sussex.

The event which was celebrating its fifth year is one of the largest swimming pool triathlons in the country.

The event attracted 430 athletes including almost 90 first time triathletes and 30 children. People of all ages pulled on their swimming trunks to swim 500m, then jumped on bikes to cycle 24 kilometres and finally endured a five kilometre run.

The event raised thousands of pounds for Sussex based charity Sightsavers. Chris Goodwin is visually impaired and completed the course with his guide David Ardley.

Chris said: "I did the swim at the time based on my estimate, and the cycling and running - well, we just got on and did it."

The race was won by Charles Pennington from the Royal Navy Triathlon club in a time of 1 hour and 6 minutes. Emily Bright of East Grinstead Triathlon won the female race in a time of 1:14:44. Margaret Hollamby from Mid Sussex Triathlon Club won the female 50 to 54 age group in just over 1 hour and 26 minutes.

Organisers of the race are now turning to their next event which is the huge Brighton Triathlon which is based at Madeira Drive on 21 September.
