Hurst B and Plough both won again last week and still share the lead in the early stages of the Mid Sussex Bar Billiards League.
Hurst B were at White Horse and it was good to see Brian Coleman back at home. Chris Kirkham put Hurst ahead before Trevor Howes squared it. King Lear put Hurst back in front and Steve King hit big with 5870 to win the fourth leg and the match. Hors
e could not provide Dazza with an opponent.
Plough went to The Bees at World's End and came away with a hatful. The Flying Dutchman made it two in a row but that was the hosts' lot as Plough tomped away with wins by Des Gasson, Mark Webber, Keith Potter and Malc Fuller.
First home game for Royal Oak started well with another win for the Rose, albeit a close call. Peter Edwards got all skipperish again and levelled it before Jenny put Kleiners into the lead with a welcome win. Dilly sowed up the game but there was a welcome point for the Oak in the last as Lyn Storr showed her girls how it could be done.
Matching Kleiners on 8 points are Sportsman, starting their first season in the Premier with two wins. Paul Goodwin got the Greyhound off to a good start but it was level when Colleen Park (aka DA-DM) got her first point for her new side. Dave Ingram hit a cracking 11570 to put Sportsman into the lead but Greyhound skipper Trevor Rees was having none of it and made it 2-2. Into the decider and Lady Ros came good to grab the points.
USC were at home for the first time this season and won well against Droops. Mama Hall put the visitors into the lead on the new top and Sparky levelled it before Mick Kirwan followed his lead and put the hosts ahead. USC captain Andy Short grabbed the next game and their first win bonus before The Farmer stepped up to the plate and showed his team how to do it with a 6810.
Last season's divisional champions met at the Hurst club, with both having lost their opener. Zed's Super G hit big with 5870 to put the visitors ahead after watching his opponent spill a break of 6K+. Two old scrappers were into the ring next and The Old Fella came out on top to make it 1-1. Barry Timson played a steady hand to put Zeds back in front only to see Papa Hall square it again. Another Hurst reserve was called up, Kevin Tunstall by name, and he finished the match with a very impressive 14820 to win Hurst the points. What a man to have on your side.
The A Team went to Saints and came away with enough to see them top of Division 1. Matt Geal put Saints one up but Kim Stenning pegged it back. Big Norm put The A Team in front, as any good captain should, but then Shaun Morris hit big in the fourth with 6060 to make it all square again, as any good captain should. Yet another decider and this one went to the visitors' John Staplehurst.
