Chatham play ghouls at the wake

Burgess Hill player-manager Jamie Howell will be wary about winning any more Ryman League manager-of-the-month awards. He received that honour in March and then saw his play-off chasers pick up just three points in the last six games of the season.
A 3-2 defeat on the final day against lowly Chatham was a little hard to swallow as the best crowd of the season turned up to watch what could be the team's last game at Leylands Park. Their council landlords have given them notice to quit by October and a massive campaign is underway to get that decision reversed.
The fans played their part by turning up in numbers but witnessed another flat Hillians performance which was duly punished as Chatham scored twice in stoppage time. Former Hillians player Darren Smith levelled from the spot and then sub Tyran James won it with a header.
A draw would probably have been the right result as the hosts led early and late through skipper Steve Harper (the opener a penalty) and Justin Ascheri hit Chatham's first equaliser on 37 minutes.
