Hurstpierpoint FC came into Saturday's County League Division 3 derby in the better form but it was Haywards Heath who went away four-goal winners after managing only five in their first six games.
Goalkeeping shortages meant a start for Harris but the Hurst man had a disappointing afternoon.
It was his spill that enabled Ollie Day to open the scoring on 13 minutes and then a mix-up with Webster and Charker enabled Dean Pitcher to mark his Heath debut with a goal.
Hurst did pick up after that and Tom Stripp had a long shot well saved by Chris Turner, while Martin Hurley missed a great chance from close range.
The hosts had a mountain to climb when Skinner combined with Baird to make it 3-0 just before half time.
It was a low key second half until the last quarter when a foul on Jack Ritchie earned Hurst a penalty that Hurley had saved by Turner.
Both sides made changes and it was one by Heath that paid off as Mark Enticknap turned neatly to fire the ball in from 22 yards, with Harris managing only to palm it into the net.
Hurst did finish the stronger but Turner was not to be beaten and by then the game was up.
Heath were without Daly Clark and Matt Kelly, while Hurst replaced Fotheringham with Sam Swain and brought in new signing Goulden for Ant Pitt.
Middy Starman: Simon McMenemy (Heath).
