Hurstpierpoint Colts Under-14s battled the elements to win the annual Patcham United six-a-side soccer tournament at the Waterhall complex in Brighton.
Hurst made a poor start, losing their opening game to Shoreham 2-0 and then drawing with Fishersgate Flyers 1-1.
But victories over Patcham B and C and Withdean Youth soon moved them up the league to finish fourth. That earned them a semi final clash with Fishersgate.
Like the first meeting, it proved close and went to sudden death in a three minute period of extra time. With seconds to go, Will Jex pounced on a through ball by Dan Smith to slot the ball home for the golden goal that took Hurst through to the final against Patcham A.
This proved another tight game but the well organised Hurst team competed well and snatched victory when Smith drove home a long range free kick.
The Hurst team of Robbie Pattison, Kasper Axelsen, Dan Smith, George Toynbee, Robbie Hollis, Will Jex, Tom Penfold and Kit Tregear were presented with their medals by Brighton & Hove Albions's Tommy Elphick.
