Johnsy can draw great comfort
THE curtain came down on the County League season and Dave John's memorable 17 years in charge of Hassocks with Tuesday's remarkably well contested 1-1 home draw with Wick.
Neither of these top seven clubs could improve their position but that did not stop them putting in plenty of effort and producing an entertaining match. Carl Stabler and fifth-placed Wick deserve full credit for that against another young Hassocks side who clearly wanted to send Johnsy out with a victory.
In the end it was about the right result, thanks to two fine goals. The highly gifted but overly lippy Scott Murfin conjured up a piece of vintage finishing to put the visitors ahead on 25 minutes but Robins salvaged a point with a good second-half strike by Laurence Robinson, played through by Sam Franks to help make it a memorable senior debut for the son of former Hassocks player and sporting all-rounder John Franks.
