Johnsy's big day

DAVE JOHN'S 17-year tenure as Hassocks soccer boss will be marked this Saturday in a suitably friendly manner as a Club Select XI take on a specially selected County League XI at the Beacon (3).
The Hassocks team will include such old favourites as Eddie French and Neil Smith, as well members of the current team, while Sussex manager Sammy Donnelly has got together a County League team which should include such marvellous servants as Gary Young and Rhys Head.

Admission is £3 and there should be a good turnout to honour Johnsy's own wonderful service, not only to the Robins but to Mid Sussex and County football in general.

Last Saturday Phil Johnson made his full senior debut after his hat-trick in the last 20 minutes gave the youth side a remarkable 3-2 comeback win over Arundel in the County League Youth final on Thursday. But with the youth team also playing on Sunday, Johnson played only the first half of the 1-0 home defeat by Redhill.

The youth final at East Preston was eventful in more ways than one, with each side having a player taken to hospital with concussion. Keeper Jack Simpson was the Robins player and outfield sub Dan Strange took over between the sticks.

Meanwhile, John's reign as first team boss was extended until next Tuesday by the postponement of the final league game at home to Wick.
