After the excitement of the Derby and the thrills of the Royal International Horse Show, it was the youngsters' turn to take over Hickstead last week for the annual schools and Pony Club Championships, writes Lucy Cooper.
Hurspierpoint College's Prep team leapt into joint second place overall in the junior schools competition after a tense jump-off. There were brilliant rounds from the team of Ellie Brown, Benjy Mason and Amy Inglis.
But the icing on the cake came when Amy, riding J's Junior, came secondnd in the Individual jumping competition, making it a double celebration for Hurst, who were sponsoring the event and whose headmaster Tim Manly made the presentations.
Amy's mum Claire said: "We're really proud of the whole team. Riding for the first time in the Hickstead arena is so exciting for young riders, and to come away with rosettes is fantastic."
The event attracted hundreds of young show jumpers from schools and pony clubs from all over the country, and even a visiting team from the USA took up the challenge as they battled it out in the outer rings to qualify to ride in the famous Hickstead International arena.
The competition was in three sections - junior schools, senior schools, and pony clubs - with each producing a champion team and individual showjumper.
A great effort also came from Warden Park School in Cuckfield, with their team of Tillie Brown, Jasmin Crossfield and Flo Harris. They jumped three great rounds in the senior school qualifiers to finish 12th out of 64 teams.
The girls narrowly missed out on the chance to ride in the international arena but were still delighted to have jumped well and been placed so high overall.
