It was hardly a classic cup tie before a crowd of 170 but in the end Hillians emerged comfortable winners.
Hillians: Stoner; M Piper, Fogden, Gainsford, French; Cotton, Howell, Beck, Johnson; Harper, Louis. Subs: Greenfield, Westlake, Lansdale, Elkins, Hunwick.
Dunstable: Taylor, Moss, Burgrove, Nolan, Harrington, Harker, Barnett, Sinclair, Matyszkiewicz
, Strange, Olaleye. Subs: Billy, Mattland, Cowley, Richardon.
Referee: Dean Treleaven. Linesman: Andrew Dine, Patrick Beech.
In the early stages the visitors showed they would be no pushovers as Hillians were bidding to add £2,000 to the £4,500 they banked from their midweek FA Cup replay win at Bognor.
But in the first 18 minutes young Albion stiker Kane Louis missed three chances to open his Hillians account.
If the first two were reasonable the third was gilt-edged as skipper Steve Harper tricked his marker on the right and laid the chance on a plate for Louis, who blazed overwith only the keeper to beat.
Just before that the visitors had missed a chance of their own when Krzysztof Matyszkiewicz and Moses Olaleye got in each others' way on the edge of the box.
Dunstable soon forgot about that miss, however, as on 25 minutes they took the lead. Matt Piper missed a right wing cross by Jonathon Barnett and Olaleye took full advantage at the far post.
That was only the second goal Hillians had conceded in five games and it did nother for their confidence as they struggled to get their game together, clearly suffering from a FA Cup hangover.
Their next chance of note came on 39 minutes when Piper did well on the right to play in Harper at the near post. Unfortunately for Hillians, the skipper's shot was nearer the corner flag than the goal.
Harper was much surer with his finish from the penalty spot a minute before the break when he put his side level.Fareham referee Dean Treleaven spotted a push from Ben Johnson's free kick and was still being berated by visiting players as they trooped off for half time a minute later.
Richard Greenfield replaced Lloyd Cotton at the start of the second half but it was Dunstable sub, the extragavantly named Terry'Jay Jay' Billy, who wasquick to pose problems as Hillians survived by the skin of their teeth.
At the other end the hapless Louis added another bad miss to his list as keeper Paul Taylor saved with his legs and just to add to Hillians' misery, Greenfield put the follow-up effort wide.
Billy's appearance was brief as he limped off to be replaced by Ryan Cowley with barely five minutes of the second half played.
Home keeper Craig Stoner breathed a huge sigh of relief on 52 minutes when he was way out of his goal when gifting the ball to Richard Harker, whose effort from distance was yards wide of the open goal.
After a scrappy spell, when a long range effort by Harker was comfortably taken by Stoner, Hillians went close. Johnson did superbly out on the right before setting up Dan Beck for a strike that went inches wide.
Hillians went ahead on 67 minutes when Harper went up for an excellent corner delivered by Johnson and although he missed it, the ball went in off the body of Nick Fogden, who was standing behind his skipper.
There was almost an air of "Well, it's about time" from Kane Louis himself as he finally opened his Hillians account on 80 minutes. He won a free kick just outside the box and despite it being prime Harper territory, the skipper left it to Louis to try his luck and he stroked the ball inside Taylor's lefthand post with almost nonchalant ease.
Stoner had to turn over one effort and another appeared to hit the top of the bar before Hillians went close to adding to their lead. Several players had efforts blocked before Greenfield drove a shot across the goal and just wide of the far post.
