Hassocks were fortunate to go in at half time on level terms after being out played for most of the first 45 minutes.
An own goal after 37 minutes brought them level and they then at last started to ask a few questions of the visiting defence.
But up until then the side lying third in the Combined Counties League had made all the running and created enough chances to have sealed the tie.
