After a wet morning, the weather improved in the afternoon just about enough to make a start for Ladies Day at Newick Bowls Club.
Unfortunately, on the last end of the three-end final the heavens opened again. Shirley Nelson, Bobbie Blundy and Janet Birch were leading by two shots having won the first two ends. In the downpour, June Herron, Sue Hanlon and Sally Randle managed to win the last end but by only one shot.
That meant Shirley, Bobbie and Janet were presented with the John Wilkins Trophy and a paperweight each. The runners-up were each presented with a coaster.
Club president Ron Pateman, made the presentations of the coasters and paper weights that had been hand-crafted by lady captain Kathy Carter. Everyone then enjoyed a meal served by the men.
