Long trip worthwhile

Sussex Dolphins ladies made the long journey to Tendring for the next round of their national volleyball league matches and despite it being a single header, the trip proved worthwhile as they came from one set down to win 3-1.
It was a weakened team they took to Essex and with only six players, Sussex knew they faced a real challenge. That was confirmed as a poor start gave Tendring the first set by a comfortable 25-18 margin.
The visitors then steadied their nerves in set two and some strong serving by Vicky Sarsfield and Tracy Bateman, with excellent block and cover defence, destroyed the home team 25-10.
By set three Sussex had got into their stride and tighter defence plus some solid blocking by Sophie Fletcher and hitting by player-of-the-match Sarsfield swept them to a 25-15 success.
Into set four and Sussex were riding high on confidence as Tendring completely lost their game plan. Sussex capitalised with some good solid play to seal the win 25-16.
Sussex Dolphins Squad: V Sarsfield, T Bateman, J Phillipo-Nevill, E Shoare, SFlynn, S Fletcher. Coach: R Hemery.
The next fixtures are on the weekend of October 11-12 when the ladies are at home to Jersey in the cup on the Saturday and the following day the men are at Brentwood Estonians.
