MARLINS swimmer Mai Alland continued her county success by performing creditably in the British Championships 50m freestyle event held at Pond's Forge, Sheffield.
This competition was used as a Beijing Olympic trial and that meant it attracted the top swimmers in the country.

Although the gifted Alland finished 32nd to winner Fran Halshall (City of Liverpool), who earned her coveted place in the Olympic team, the local girl did superbly to be fourth in the country in her 14-years age group.

As the current Sussex County long course (50m) record holder, Alland found herself in new territory up against such talented swimmers but it brought the best out of her as she set a personal best time of 27.86 to break her own County record.

She was accompanied by Marlins coach Beth Ross, who said: "Mai is to be congratulated for swimming really well in tough circumstances."
