It was a disappointing start to the Ryman League football season for Burgess Hill on saturday as they lost 2-0 at home to Leatherhead.
There was not much to choose between the teams in a goalless first half but after the break Hillians gifted the visitors both goals.
A bad error by new keeper Craig Stoner presented Burgess Hill old boy Stewart Holmes with the first on 54 minutes and then a complete misunderstanding in defence enabled the impressive Tommy Hutchins to lob Stoner after 78 minutes.
As in their pre-season friendlies, Hillians looked like they will struggle to score goals although they appeared fairly solid elsewhere.
The closest they came to scoring was a minute before the killer second goal when skipper Steve Harper hit a post after good work by Ben johnson and player-manager Jamie Howell.
