Hassocks FC announced this week that John Suter will be jointly managing with Mickey Jewell next season.
Since his somewhat unexpected departure from Horsham YMCA after their relegation back into the County League, Suter has been linked with a number of clubs and his appointment at The Beacon is seen as a major coup.

No doubt his strong links with Dave John, who stood down at the end of last season and takes over as director of football, were a factor although Jewell is believed to have had a big say.

Chairman Derek Hurley said that Suter would not only bring experience of Ryman League football but proven qualities which, allied to those of Mickey Jewell, would be a formidable asset as Hassocks look to take the next step in the football ladder.

Dave John said: "It's good to get John on board and there could be others arriving as we gear up to push the club on to the next step.
"Part of my job is to ensure that happens and things go smoothly. I didn't know quite what the job would involve and so I'm creating it for myself."

He felt Suter got a raw deal at YM, where former Burgess Hill No 2 Chris White has taken over.

Despite the wonderful facilities at the Beacon, there could again be a delayed start to their home programme after £36,000 -worth of drainage work was carried out on the pitch.

Dave John said: "The grass is starting to come through but it could be September before we can start using it again."

On the player front, last season's captain Joel Harding is away touring the world and Peter Lear is moving to London, which could ultimately mean his departure. Matt Robbins is also on the grand tour but should be back at the end of August, while Sam Fisk is expected back from Australia in September. Mickey Turner is still pondering his future.
