Youth soccer is back and her we give a preview of some of the matces that will feature in this week's Mid Sussex Times:
Under 10
Plumpton Ath 2 Marle Place Wands 1
Place had to make an enforced change before kick-off when first choice keeper Jack Richards announced he felt unwell and it was not long beofre two long range effort beat Kyle Arnold to leave them trailing 2-0. MoM Antonio Gallotta had already twice gone close before deservedly pulling one back after good work by Henry Foulkes, who along with captain Alex Whitton produced some fine work on the flank. After the break Cieran Deer came on and tested the home keeper, who was under siege for much of the half. Both Deer and Foulkes rattled the bar, while at the other end Charlie Waters and Joe Barker were alert to occasional threats from Plumpton. Despite their dominance, Place failed to come up with an equaliser as they paid the price for a slow start.
Plumpton Ath 1 Marle Place Wands 2
The second match was also closely contested, with Richards returning in goal and Deer opening the scoring after the keeper parried his first shot. He tired after the break and his replacement Whitton almost made it 2-0 when he hit the bar soon after his arrival. It was Tom Williams who finally grabbed No 2 when he slid the ball in from an almost impossible angle. But when the hosts pulled one back from distance, it was backs to the wall for Place and they were particularly grateful to a gritty defensive performance by MoM Ryan Longstaff. Overall three points out of six was a decent return against two strong Plumpton sides but Place will probably have felt their efforts deserved maximum return.

Phoenix Utd 1 Marle Place Wands 11
Place played superbly in this impressive win in Crawley, where George Bloomfield and MoM Harry Quilley-Smith each bagged a hat-trick. The other goals came from Steve Bright (2), Daniel Brumpton (2) and Edwin Dale. There was good support from midfield trio Oliver Brookes, Jacob Higgs and Ryan Baker, while keeper Josh Crowther and his defence of Alex Harman, Billy Mitchell, George Tucker, Ben Ackland, Nicolas Stipidis deserve a mention for a solid display.

Under 14
Marle Place Girls 6 Pevensey Girls 0
Place played Pevensey for the second game running and completed a comfortable double. On 10 minutes Jasmine Somerville's shot went through the keeper's legs after a fine move between Kay Porter and Alice Bass. Georgia Burt extended the lead and the same player made it 3-0 after good work by Laura Bass and Charlotte Blythe. The second half followed a similar pattern, with Marle Place piling on the pressure and Alex Burt extending the lead with a terrific run and shot from inside the area. The Place defence of Charlotte John and Danielle Bishop, ahead of keeper Siobhan White, were at their best and did not allow Pevensey any way through as chances continued to come at the other end. Kelly Dunne and Jess Chapman set up Charlotte Fox for her first goal of the season with a scorcher from outside the box and Abby Lewis celebrated coming for her first competitive match by combining with Laura Bass to allow Fox to grab her second.

Meridian Ath 1 Southdown Ath 0
Southdown's winning Sussex Sunday League start ended on Sunday when they were beaten by a single goal five minutes from time. The central midfield pairing of Ben Churchyard and Harrison Hoar combined well to keep striker Adam Hamdy well supplied, while at the other end a goalmouth scramble led to a good block by Southdown goalie Ollie Case-Green. Meridian started the second half the more brightly and Southdown were forced to defend for the most part. But led by MoM left-back Will Brinsley, they resisted until the last five minutes.

Black Hawks 5 Marle Place Wands 3
Place showed great resolve to draw level three times with their hosts at Eastbourne before finally being sunk by two goals in the last five minutes of this Sussex Sunday League game. They were unlucky not to have picked up a point as Andy Graham and Dan Stubbings (2) scored their goals. In midfield there were tireless performances from Aaron Knottley and Alex Wright, while at the back Tom Mitchell's hard working performance was his best yet for Wanderers. Tom Romer, Dan Jones, Dan Vaccaro, Luke Stubbings and Ismail Islyam, switched to central defence, did well at the back, while at the other end Stubbings was outstanding, showing pace, movement and some skilful finishing.

Cuckfield Cosmos 9 Cuckfield Cosmos Utd 1
Saturday's club derby featured a superb display of team work and goal scoring that gave Cosmos their first league win of the season. Dominic Stone won a challenge with the keeper on the edge of the box before firing in the opening goal and Harry Flower extended the lead with a header. United rallied and threatened the Cosmos goal with a couple of speculative shots which were comfortably dealt with by new keeper Robert Ternouth. In the second half Cosmos stepped up the pace as Flower, Harry Towler, Nick Whettem, Andre Bishop, Matt Boreham and Tom Fitzgerald controlled midfield with tenacity and skill, while at the back Joe Gorringe, Joe Barkley, Jake Godfrey and Billy Meborah-Collinson kept United at bay. Stone made it 3-0 and Flower grabbed his second before Meborah-Collinson headed home from a corner. An own goal made it 6-0 and then Stone completed his first hat-trick for the club with a good finish. United did get a late consolation goal through Adam Knevett but Cosmos had the last word Jack Palser struck twice against his old side. On this occasion the Cosmos MoM goes to the whole side for an impressive team display.

Maidenbower Colts 1 Hurstpierpoint Colts 4
Hurst Colts gained a worthy win at Crawley against last season's champions and cup runners up as Calum Dove grabbed a hat-trick. The top two teams last season stood toe-to-toe and Hurst went ahead on 25 minutes when Dove fired in direct from a free kick on the edge of the box. Hurst increased their lead two minutes later when Luke Pearce cut in from the left and hit in a curling right foot shot. Maidenbower fought back into the game but it was still 2-0 at half time and after the break a long clearance from Ryan Kerr enabled Dove to coolly add No 3. The hosts did pull one back when a free kick was not cleared but the next goal was crucial and appropriateyl it came from Dove as he cleverly cut across his defender to meet a Will Baker free kick and skilfully guide the ball in. Hurst created further chances but could not add to their tally in what was a solid team performance.
