17-year-old Hurstpierpoint girl hospitalised after collision

A 17-year-old girl from Hurstpierpoint sustained serious leg injuries in a collision near Poynings yesterday, police have confirmed.

Police were called to a two car collision at the junction of Saddlescombe Road with Devil’s Dyke Road at 6.34pm yesterday (Thursday, Feburary 23), according to a spokesperson.

The 17-year-old, who was a passenger in one of the vehicles, sustained serious leg injuries and had to be released from the car by fire-fighters, the spokesperson said.

She was taken by ambulance to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, where she has been detained for treatment, confirmed the spokesperson.

Saddlescombe Road was closed until almost 1am, between the Beggars Lane roundabout and Devil’s Dyke Road, while the incident was dealt with, police said.
