A man's body has been pulled from Chichester canal by police divers.
Sussex Police were called out to the canal between the railway station and Hunston by people who reported seeing the body in the water at around 11am yesterday morning (Wednesday, September 3).

A police spokesperson said: "This inquiry is at a very early stage.

"The body is believed to be that to be of a man in his 40s.

"A post mortem is due to be carried out next week. We cannot reveal the possible identity of the man as he has not been formally identified yet."

The spokeswoman said a specialist police dive unit recovered the body on Wednesday afternoon along the stretch of the canal between Waterside Drive and Grosvenor Road in Chichester.

"Police are conducting their enquiries to find out how the man came to be in the canal," she added.
