A CHICHESTER swimming pool was temporarily closed after tests revealed the water quality was slightly below par.
Management decided to voluntarily close the pool at Cannons Health Club last Tuesday following independent testing by the Environmental Health Department which revealed negative water quality results.
Chichester District Council confirmed environm
ental health officers did not request the swimming pool be closed because the water quality was still adequate enough for it to remain open.
A Cannon's spokesman said the water quality had been affected by a fault in a piece of equipment in the swimming pool's plant room.
"The fault was fixed immediately, but the safety and trust of our members is very important to us, so as a precaution we kept the pool closed and requested further tests by an independent biological water testing company," he said.
The pool was reopened on Monday morning after bosses at the club received confirmation the water quality was back to usual standards.
The spokesman said staff at the health club followed company procedures by sending a text message to all members advising them about the closure.
"In addition we telephoned those who were booked on swimming or aqua classes advising them and put notices on club notice boards.
"We apologise to all members for the inconvenience the short closure of the pool has caused and want to thank them for their patience."
Members were allowed to use the swimming pool at the Portsmouth Cannons branch while the Chichester one was closed.
