Chichester's canalside is set to become more open to the public and decorated with art.
This is under early plans from Terra Firma, a landscape architecture consultancy appointed by Chichester District Council to tidy up the area.

The consultants met with community groups in the city to consider what they wanted to see improved aroun
d the canal.

From the meeting it was felt there was outdated seating and paving, with limited access to the waterside for cars from the northern edge.

"The people who came to the meeting clearly love the area around the canal, and are passionate about wanting to improve it," said Robyn Butcher from Terra Firma.

"There was a consensus about the need to improve and enhance the spaces around the Basin itself by creating more opportunities for people to enjoy them.

"Our scheme will need to take account of the proposals for the Osbourne's site and what might come forward on the Royal Mail site, but we hope to make a real difference whatever those proposals may be."

More detailed plans will be shown at another meeting later this summer.
